We will be demonstrating drills and playing a small indoor game. If interested, stop by the Student Info Center for more information. Harding students had an excellent day at the Future City State contest. Addison Swartzendruber, Sydney Reicks and Kenzie Hitzel won a special engineering award for their city Rio Claro. Crew Geater and Zach Novotny expertly explained their futurist innovations in their city Hochland. Sidney Swartzendruber, Oliva Klein and Jovie Veach won the award for the best city essay and an engineering award. Caleb Ralston, Andrew Belz, and Jake Ervin won the award for best virtual city and an engineering award. In addition, the boys won the state contest and will compete in Washington DC, February 15-19. February 12th is the Valentine Dance and Open Gym from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Wristbands will be sold for $3.00 before school the day of the dance. The concession stand will be open at the dance. Make sure you have your ride arranged to pick you up promptly at 5:00 pm. Students who have 2 or more office referrals or a suspension, beginning Wednesday, January 29 will not be able to attend the dance, so make sure you are meeting our Harding Expectations in our school and on our buses! Kids vs. Cops is now scheduled for Wednesday, February 26th. If you are interested in being a captain, you should obtain a roster sheet from the Student Info Center and begin to recruit members for your team. The captain fills out the roster and collects $3.00 from each person on their team. When a captain has their team complete, they need to turn in their roster and money to Mr. Cushman or Mr. Franta. Students are encouraged to get their teams together as soon as possible so that we are ready to go on the 26th. If you wish to be a spectator at the event, you will have an opportunity to buy a wristband for $3.00 before school the day of the event. Hey Chargers! It’s that time of year again, the nationwide Doodle for Google” poster contest! This year’s theme is KINDNESS and how you show it to others. Interested students should stop by the art room, 112, to pick up an official contest entry form. Students can use as many forms needed upon submitting one final design to be entered into the contest. The due date for designs will be March 10th to allow some time for mailing. Each state will have a winning design determined by Google judges. Five finalists will be flown to Google’s Mountain View Headquarters, where four will win a $5000 scholarship and one grand champion will receive: A $30,000 college scholarship A $50,000 Google for Education technology package for Harding Middle School Their artwork will be placed on the Google homepage for one day Let’s show the world what kindness looks like here at Harding Middle school! The Harding girls hosted North Central of Iowa City on Tuesday night. The C team tied as Aiyanna Steel led the way with 8 points. Srinidhi Kompella chipped in with 2 points and had 3 rebounds. Kira Lampe and Jamiya Ruffin also had 3 rebounds and Adi Lagunas led the team with 6 steals. In the B game the Chargers faced a tough opponent. Neveah Jackson led the scoring and Kiera Werner led the rebounding. In the A game the girls played tough but lost 30-20. Ella Moser...
